Lona Mae Smith Abbott Obituary (1935

Lona Mae Smith Abbott, 83, of Houston, gained her heavenly wings on Friday, February 1, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones. Mrs. Abbott was born on December 19, 1935, in Pizgah, Alabama. Lona married Leyon Abbott on May 16, 1953, and shared 56 years with him. Together they raised 7 children. Lona loved spending time with her family. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 11am - 2pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where services will be held at 2pm. Reverend Rick Moody will officiate. Burial will follow in Houston Church of God Cemetery. Lona is survived by her sons, Ricky, David, Lonnie, Junior, Joey; daughters, Becky and Sandra; her only living sister, Jewell Shannon, 88, of Austin, Texas. She was known as “MawMaw” and “Granny” by many grands, great grands and great-great grands. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leyon Abbott; parents, Steven Robert and Stacy Jeanette Bell Smith; siblings, Henry Robert, Arthur Lee, Lela Christine, Betty Jean, Howard Edward, and Virginia Ann.
