Lavern Ellus Watts

Lavern Ellus Watts, known affectionately as Lavern, answered the call of her heavenly father on August 10, 2024. Born on January 2, 1935, in Winston County, Alabama, Lavern spent her 89 years dedicating her life to her loved ones and the fruitful work of her hands. A compassionate, loving, and loyal mother, grandmother to 14 and great grandmother to 14, Lavern was a pillar of strength and virtue in her family. As a dedicated member of the Church of Christ, she lived her life by the teachings of Proverbs 31:25, "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."

Lavern was a remarkable woman whose legacy includes not only her family but also her successful 38 year career in the aviation interior business. Known for her artistic flair and meticulous attention to detail, Lavern was a respected seamstress who brought elegance and comfort to the skies. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as gardening, a hobby that perfectly showcased her nurturing spirit and love for creation. Lavern E. Watts will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her craft, and her compassionate heart, which never failed to extend a hand to those in need.

Lavern is survived by her sons, Greg Watts, David Watts, and Roger Watts; daughters, Joann Watts, Rose Watts, and Ginger McCormick (Jeff Chesley); 14 grandchildren, Lee Ann Watts, Bubba Watts, Skylar Watts, Kristen (Chris) Dunfield, Michelle Landrum, Ashley Lelo, Autum Baggett, Tyler (Cheryl) McCormick, Nick (Greer) McCormick, and Mason (Kade) McCormick; 13 great grandchildren, Gunner Watts, Gregory Watts, Mikelia Watts, River Watts, William Watts, Luna Dunfield, Luke Dunfield, Preslee Berry, Gabriel Berry, Grant Berry, Joe McCormick, Delilah McCormick, and Swayze McCormick; sister in law, Becky Wallace; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Watts; parents, Will and Martley Wallace; grandchild, Jayden Watts; brother and sister in law, Wilton and Dorthy Wallace; sister and brother in law, Louise and Hercil Curtis; brother and sister in law, William and Margaret Wallace; and brother, Bobby Wallace.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville, Alabama. She was a beacon of light in our lives, and her memory will forever be cherished in our hearts.
