Gladys Whitman Mayhall Obituary (1924

Gladys Whitman Mayhall, 94, of Haleyville, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Lakeland Community Hospital. Her visitation will be on Sunday, October 25, 2018 from 12-2pm, with her service to follow at 2pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville. Brother Ronnie Marbutt and Dr. Ron Horton will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery. Gladys was born on July 10, 1924 in Winston County, to the late George and Mima Oden Whitman. She was a vivacious woman, filled with a zest for life and a deep love for her family. She married Benjamin "Buck" Mayhall on Christmas Day, 1941. Together, they would raise their seven children in a home filled with love. Gladys was a tireless homemaker, a talented seamstress and a powerful prayer warrior who prayed for each of her children, grandchildren and great-great grandchildren ceaselessly. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin "Buck" Mayhall; her son, Mike Mayhall; son in law, Joseph Wallace; parents, George and Mima Ellen Oden Whitman; brothers, Emeric Whitman and Eric Whitman; sisters, Vera (Luke) Walker, and Charlene Whitman; stepmother, Chelcy Whitman; and very special grandmother, Mary Frances Oden. Gladys is survived by her children, Tim (Gail) Mayhall, Jean Wallace, Martha Mayhall, Deborah (Jerry) Phillips, Lora (Billy) Lane, and Karen (Terry) Pearson; brothers, Buster Whitman, and Rayburn Whitman; sisters, Christine Oden, and Linda Parrish. She was "Grandmomma" to her grandchildren, Jon (Leigh) Wallace, Tina (Mike) Williams, Scott (Sheila) Wallace, Lisa (Heath) Clark, Shelly (Wade) Hess, Susan (Emeric) Watson, Brett (Amy) Lane, Jevon Phillips, Benjamin Pearson, and Jeremy (Erin) Phillips; and "Granny" to her great-grandchildren, Rachel, Blaze, Jordan, and Cassidy Wallace, Lauren and Allison Williams; Tim David and Maya Clark, Emily, Andrew and Beaux Watson, Jon and Laura Katharine Hess, and Jackson Phillips.
